Fireworks Law

Setting off fireworks
You can set off fireworks any day of the year between 7am and 11pm, except
for:

Bonfire Night – UP TO MIDNIGHT
New Year’s Eve – UP TO 1AM
Diwali – UP TO 1AM
Chinese New Year – UP TO 1AM

You should still check with your council to find out about any local rules for
setting off fireworks.
Misuse of fireworks

You can be fined up to £5,000 and imprisoned for up to 6 months for selling
or using fireworks illegally. You could also get an on-the-spot fine of £90.

Buying fireworks

You cannot buy fireworks if you’re under 18 years old, and it’s against the law for anyone under 18 years old to even be in possession of fireworks. Firework usage is restricted to 7am – 11pm, except on certain occasions where the time is extended.

You can buy fireworks from the Tapp’s Fireworks all year round as we
currently operate an all-year license for the retail of fireworks. Most other
retailers such as supermarkets have restricted selling periods and cannot sell all
year.

Storage
Tips on safely storing your fireworks.
The first thing to remember is that Fireworks contain explosives! This might
seem obvious, but you should understand that you are handling and storing
explosives and not toys.
When storing fireworks at home ensure the following is strictly adhered to:
• The fireworks are kept away from any sources of heat or ignition like
naked flames or heaters
• The fireworks are kept dry
• Never smoke while handling fireworks
• Store fireworks in their original packaging
• Do not store fireworks with any other flammable materials including
petrol, oil or paint
• If there is a possibility of children or animals having access to the
fireworks, keep them stored in a lockable container or cabinet
It is not advised to store fireworks outside in sheds where they can get
damp. You should also avoid anywhere with significant changes in
temperatures including greenhouses, conservatories and lofts which could result
in condensation. If you must keep your fireworks in the shed, wrap them up
tightly in well-sealed bin liners or plastic bags.
